About
Dash Kumar, a digital collage artist renowned for his captivating work in surrealism and escapism, draws inspiration from a diverse background.
Born and raised in London with a Srilankan Tamil heritage, Dash brings a rich tapestry of experiences to his art. While formally educated in Interior Architecture and Design at university, Dash has always harboured a profound passion for art across various mediums
In September 2019, Dash embarked on a new chapter in their life, seeking adventure in the dynamic city known as the “Northern Powerhouse." aka Manchester. With a background in design, Dash had high hopes of securing a creative job. However, life had a different plan. They found themselves working in a call center, a far cry from their creative aspirations. Little did Dash know that this unexpected turn of events would lead to a remarkable journey in the world of digital art.
The turning point came in March 2020 when the world was shaken by the COVID-19 pandemic. Dash, like many of us, found themselves confined within the four walls of their home, taking countless calls each day. With no real friends or family nearby and only one housemate for company, Dash yearned for a creative outlet to escape the monotony of their pandemic-driven reality.
Armed with some prior experience in Photoshop, Dash discovered the captivating world of digital collages. Among the myriad of possibilities, it was the theme of escapism and surrealism, centered around sunsets and landscapes, that resonated most deeply with them. This choice was no coincidence; it reflected the universal yearning for escape and freedom that was shared by people across the globe during those challenging times.
During a particularly isolating period, Dash's housemate was unable to return home due to travel restrictions, leaving Dash in complete isolation for a straight four-month stretch. In response to this unique situation, they embarked on a 100-day challenge to create a new piece of art every day. This self-imposed challenge pushed the boundaries of their creativity and marked the beginning of a remarkable artistic journey.
Now, three years later, Dash has created over 365 digital art pieces, each a testament to their resilience, creativity, and the power of art to transcend the boundaries of the everyday.
